  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Low Carbon Technologies and Sustainable Chemistry (cod. 9246)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be provided with an overview of the chemistry and physics of materials and the structure-properties relationships with a focus on sustainable energy applications. The student will be aware of the transport mechanisms in bodies and materials of the most important aspects in energy and environmental applications. The student will know the main characterization methods.

Course contents

The course treats on a equal footing the following subjects:

- photochemistry and photophysics

- physics of organic semiconductors and devices

- computational chemistry applied to physical chemistry problems

- laboratory of computational chemistry

Prerequisites:  classical thermodynamics, electrostatics, calculus, basic concepts of quantum chemistry

Teaching methods

The course mainly consists of class lectures supported by slide projection.

The course includes also some laboratory activities related to some of the topics presented in the lectures. The attendance to the laboratory sessions is mandatory.

As concerns the teaching methods of this course unit, all students must attend Module 1, 2 [https://www.unibo.it/en/services-and-opportunities/health-and-assistance/health-and-safety/online-course-on-health-and-safety-in-study-and-internship-areas] on Health and Safety online.

Assessment methods

Learning assessment is based on oral examination at the end of the course.

Teaching tools

Teaching supports include PowerPoint presentations, and slide projection. Documents and slides shown are made available to students in electronic formats.

The teaching material for the preparation of the final exam is available to students via the web at: [https://iol.unibo.it/].

Practical activities are carried out with the teaching and research laboratories of the Department of Industrial Chemistry "Toso Montanari".

Blackboard and videoprojector.
The slides shown during the lectures are available to the students in electronic form.
The reference textbooks are freely available for consultation at the Library.

Students with learning or other types of disabilities are invited to contact theServizio Studenti con Disabilità e DSA of the University of Bologna, the reference teacher in the Department, or the course teacher to establish appropriate inverventions concerning learning material and classroom adjustments.
