11148 - Electrical Systems for Energy

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Advanced Design (cod. 9256)

Learning outcomes

The module aims to provide a description of the main elements constituting electrical power systems, in particular the production, transmission, distribution and utilization subsystems, and to illustrate the principles at the base of their management in the presence of electric energy production also from renewable sources and distributed generation. At the end the student will own the knowledge of:  electricity distribution systems;  interaction between city systems and the electricity grid: smart grids, smart mobility, etc .;  integration with renewable energy sources in the city systems.

Course contents

The course provides the basic elements for acquiring knowledge

- of the structure / configuration -

of operation -

of the main components and devices of electrical energy systems with particular reference to distribution systems (low and medium voltage electrical systems) and to their contextualisation in the smart city paradigm / concept.

Readings/Bibliography

Before each lesson, handouts written by the teacher are provided, which at the end of the course are uploaded to 'Campus'.

Teaching methods

Chalk and Board and lab sessions with groups of students

Assessment methods

The exam consists in the presentation and discussion of the work carried out by the design teams, in presence or remotely

The course also schedules intermediate reviews on the progress of the project, both for each group and collectively, including any cultural and pathway interchanges.

The final evaluation of each student will take into account the results obtained in each teaching module, the quality of the project, proactivity and participation in the course.

The final proposal, expressed in thirtieths, will be evaluated according to the following criteria which will be associated with a maximum of 6 points each:

1 - Graphic and design quality of the works

2 - Quality of the service concept

3 - Effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed solutions

4 - Consistency with the theoretical aspects outlined in the course units

5 - Communication of the project results.
