Learning outcomes
At the end of the workshop, students acquire the fundamentals of some specific aspects of multimedia languages through a programme of guided exercises.
Course contents
The workshop will be an intensive training course in the language of cinema, in which various experiences will be combined, including: production, screenplay, direction, acting, editing and distribution. These phases will be aimed at the realisation of three short films in which all the attending students will be involved. They will be divided into different departments according to their aptitudes and the creative stimuli received during the first theoretical lessons. The workshop will be structured in four parts.
First theoretical part in which basic notions will be given on how to produce a short film through the search for funds through calls for proposals, film commissions, etc.. Short films and backstages will be shown in order to give a more complete vision of the cinematographic medium.
Second part of development and preparation in which students will have to write a story and then choose some of the best ideas and proceed to write the script. Then they will choose locations for filming and assign roles within the production organisation and other departments.
The third part will be the actual making of the short film.
The fourth part will be devoted to post-production, editing and the choice or composition of the music. Once the short film has been made, there will be a meeting to watch it together and there will be a discussion on its distribution route.

Teaching methods
The workshop is compulsory attendance: at least 75% of the lessons must be attended.

The workshop includes a part of theoretical frontal lessons in which students will watch short films and backstage to understand the various departments of filmmaking. The students will have the opportunity to work in the multifunctional classrooms of the Spazio Cinema of the Laboratori delle Arti and will be able to use the available equipment in the presence of the technical staff.
In view of the type of activity and teaching methods adopted, attendance at this training activity requires the prior participation of all students in modules 1 and 2 of training on safety in the workplace, in e-learning mode (https://elearning-sicurezza.unibo.it/)
Assessment methods
The main assessment criterion will be based on attendance, active participation in the workshop, effective contribution within the chosen work department and demonstration of having fully acquired the theoretical foundations and technical skills. Therefore, the student will be assessed as part of the entire workshop process, which will conclude with a face-to-face interview in which the finel grade will be announced.
Teaching tools
Projection of short films and backstage.
Filming equipment: Full HD audio-video shooting equipment, Black Magic Pocket video cameras, Handycam video cameras, tripods; microphones for recording the direct take; film set lights.
Editing system: digital editing stations with "Premiere" programme included.
The lessons will be held in the multipurpose room cinema space in Via Azzo Gardino (DAMS LAB) starting on 21 September 2021
The workshop is open to students enrolled in the second year of the Master's degree course in CITEM.
