Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be familiar with the main theoretical frameworks of sociology of migration. They will develop the capability of analyzing the dynamics of migrants insertion in the labour markets of the countries of immigration, with reference to formal, informal and illegal (processes of criminalization) economies

Course contents

This part of the course is aimed to define the phenomenon of migration through the main contributions of sociology of migration. Specific attention will be given to the relation between forms of legal regulations and strategies of settlement and social insertion. The residential collocation of migrants and minority groups will be analyzed in their formal and informal dymensions. The analysis of the structure of opportunity within legal, informal and illegal labour markets will be developed also with reference to the relation between migration and crime as a social construction.
