Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the student is able to understand the links between economy and culture and analyze and interpret the mechanisms of the cultural industry and creativity market. Whereas the focus of the course is on fine arts it also acquires the tools necessary to operate in other sectors of cultural and creative sectors.

The relationship between the fine art market and economy.

The fine art market.

Economic and artistic value of artistic goods and services.

Arts market outcomes and adjustments.

The dynamics of the market. Digitization and the legacy of the pandemic.

The supply and demand for fine art goods and services.

The economic role of critics.

Innovation in the fine art market.

Originals, copies and fakes in the fine art market.

Primary, secondary and auction markets.

Assessment methods

Oral exam on the published program. The program of the course is the same for attending and non attending students.

The assessment of the candidate follows the following grid.
• Insufficient preparation and analytical skills: rejected.
• Sufficient preparation and analytical skills, expressed in a formally correct language: 18-22.
• Adequate preparation, sufficient analytical skills, not particularly articulated, expressed in correct language → 23-26.
• In-depth knowledge of the topics, good analytical and critical skills, mastery of specific terminology → 27-29.
• Very in-depth knowledge of the topics, critical analysis and connection skills, mastery of specific terminology → 30-30L.

The student has the right to refuse the grade by means of a written communication.

The maximum possible score is 30 cum laude, in case all anwers are correct, complete and formally rigorous.

The final assessment is the same for attending and non-attending students.
