Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide the student on one hand with the fundamental knowledge for the identification of the psychological difficulties present in the patient and for an effective orientation towards the forms of specialized intervention more appropriate to face it, and from the other the basic skills that make it possible. able to manage them in the first person in the relationship with the patient, when this is sufficient or, in any case, necessary. At the end of the course the student knows the characterizing aspects of the main theoretical reference models for the psychological understanding of the different psychopathological frameworks, for the psychodiagnostic evaluation and for the psychological intervention. IS?? able to understand the psychological factors relevant for the development of the various manifestations of psychological distress in childhood and adult (childhood traumas, psychic conflict, defense mechanisms, stress); the main emotional implications related to illness, treatment and hospitalization (defensive reactions, compliance, placebo effect, burnout). IS?? able to apply the principles of psychological intervention in health practice, with particular attention to the conduct of the clinical interview and to the relational dynamics as a means of patient knowledge and change.

Course contents

The theoretical models of clinical psychology and the main models of the mind.
The problem of diagnosis in clinical psychology: the DSM V and the Kernberg model.
Psychological intervention in the health sector.
Stress, burnout in the health professions.
Organic pathology and psychological disorders.
Clinical psiocophysiology and neuro-physiological correlates of the mind-body relationship.
Neuroimaging and clinical psychology. The impact of organic pathology on: emotions, pain, stress.
The contribution of psychodynamics to the understanding of the relationship between doctor and assisted person. 1) Psychoanalysis and the problem of hysteria, the psychosexual phases, the Oedipus complex. 2) The psychology of the ego: psychological defenses and adaptation. 3) The theory of object relations. 4) The psychology of the Self and the problem of narcissism. 5) The theory of attachment: the style of attachment, mentalization.
Elements of psychotherapy: transference and countertransference, resistances and defenses.

They will be provided in class: teaching material also available through username and password at AMS Campus - AlmaDL - University of Bologna, references to recommended texts.

Teaching methods

The course consists of 4 2-hour frontal lessons for a total of 8 hours. The contents of the program will be presented with examples of clinical cases.

Assessment methods

The verification is aimed at evaluating the learning of the main models of the mind in order to understand, manage and improve the relationship between the healthcare provider and the client. Verification, by oral examination (3 questions points 0-10 each question), will take place simultaneously with the verification of the other teaching that makes up the integrated course.

Gradation of the final grade:

preparation on a limited number of topics in the program and analysis skills highlighted with the help of the teacher, expressed in an overall correct language. vote 18-19;

preparation on a limited number of program topics and mainly autonomous analysis skills, expression in correct language. vote 20-24;

preparation on a large number of program topics, critical analysis skills, command of terminology. vote 25-29;

exhaustive preparation on the topics of the program, ability of critical analysis and connection, of argumentation and self-reflection, excellent command of terminology. vote 30-30L
