Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student: - knows the characteristics of the development of normal pregnancy and those related to physiological childbirth - is able to recognize the main pictures of maternal-fetal pathology in pregnancy and has knowledge about the elements related to their clinical management - knows the basics of reproductive function and its main alterations - is able to recognize the main diseases of the female reproductive system and have a notion on their management - is able to recognize the oncological pathology pictures of the female genital system and the elements related to their early recognition and management.

Course contents

The embryo, the fetal appendages, the teratogenesis. Maternal changes in pregnancy. Checking pregnancy, obstetric ultrasound, drugs during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Childbirth. Obstetric operations. Congenital anomalies: diagnosis and screening. Infectious diseases in pregnancy. Abortion and the vesicular mola. Ectopic pregnancy. Anti-erythrocyte alloimmunizations. The placenta previa is the untimely detachment of the placenta. Premature birth. Hypertension in pregnancy. The intrauterine growth restriction. Diabetes in pregnancy. Twin pregnancies. Maternal diseases and pregnancy. From symptoms to diagnosis of the main obstetric pathologies. The reproductive axis and the regulation of the female gonadal function in the different periods of life. The menstrual cycle. Menstrual irregularities. Hyperandrogenisms and PCOS. Pathophysiology and clinic of menopause. Contraception. Endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain. Sterility. Medically Assisted Procreation techniques. Vaginal, pelvic and sexually transmitted diseases. Viral genital phlogosis. Benign Gynecological Pathology. Endometrial pathology and endometrial carcinoma. Cervical pathology and carcinoma of the cervix. Ovarian neoplasms. Genital prolapse and urinary incontinence. Benign and malignant vulvar and vaginal lesions. Diagnostic techniques and diagnosis in gynecology. The new surgical approach and minimally invasive surgery in gynecological pathologies.
