70249 - Clinical Psychology of Rehabilitation.

Learning outcomes

Clinical rehabilitation psychology addresses the psychological and social consequences of physical and mental disabilities and chronic illnesses. The educational goal is to integrate the assessment and intervention skills traditionally associated with clinical and chronic illnesses and understand social stereotypes.

Course contents

The course will take place during the second semester (from March to May 2020) at Cesena Campus of the School of Psychology and Education (address: p.zza A. Moro, 90).

1. Definition, nature, types and features of various disabilities.
2. Social stereotypes about people with disabilities.
3. Rehabiltation definition and models.
4. Social integration of people with disabilities.
5. Psychosocial aspects of adjustment to acquired disability and chronic illnesses, in particular on potential gender specific differences.
6. Family and disability.
7. Understanding psychological needs of people with a disabilities and chronic illnesses, caregivers and professional working with their families.
8. Psychological interventions in palliative care.
9. Psychological approach to rehabilitation: assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
   
10. Assessment of adaptive behaviour and behaviours modification in disability rehabilitation.
11. Research methodology in disability rehabilitation.

Teaching methods

Lectures with with Power Point Presentation. Clinical cases exemplificationsand role-playning.

Assessment methods

The exam is done through a final exam that ensures the acquisition of knowledge and skills expected by conducting a written test which provides 4 open-ended questions on topics related to the main objectives of the course. The final mark will be computed as the sum of the points obtained at the 4 questions (max 7.5 points each).

The student is required to complete the online registration (Almaesami) within the terms in order to be admitted to the exam. In the case of technical problems the student is required to promptly contact the Segreteria Studenti and to send an email to professor Tossani (within the term), who will consider the request and decide about the admission.

Erasmus or exchange students must contact the professor before the beginning of the course.
