Learning outcomes

The second part of the course of Social Psychology aims to provide students with a general overview of adolescence as it has been developed by recent research. Adolescence is a specific phase in the psychosocial development of an individual and it is characterised by a series of crucial problems relating both to developmental tasks and to the social contexts in which adolescents live. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the phenomenology of adolescence from a social-psychological perspective, and they will develop an initial ability to cope to such problems.

Course contents

The second part of the course of Social Psychology will be dedicated to deepening the knowledge of the adolescence.

At the beginning of the course, the main theories and epistemological perspectives about adolescence and adolescent development will be discussed. Then, it will be examined how different social contexts influence - either hindering or promoting- the development of adolescent’s identity.

These contents are highly relevant for the training of Social Workers who have to deal, in their professional practice, with individuals in this transitional stage.
