31417 - Laboratory of general technologies of materials and industrial applications of plasmas T

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Energy Engineering (cod. 0924)

Also valid for Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Energy Engineering (cod. 0935)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the students will be familiar with some industrial processes assisted by thermal (hot) plasmas for the production or treatment of high added value materials; the same on the side of the most advanced technologies using atmospheric pressure non-equilibrium (cold) plasmas for industrial applications and for biomedical and plasma medicine ones.

Course contents

  • Plasma Chemistry in gas and liquid phase
  • Instruments and procedures for the chemical analysis of reactive specie in gas and liquid phase
  • Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, microbiological protocols
  • Antimicrobial activity of atmospheric pressure plasmas
  • Treatment of liquid media for industrial, energetic and biomedical applications
  • Chemical and morphological analysis of plasma treated substrates
  • Bibliographic research and drafting of technical reports
  • Intellectual property protection
  • Analysis of the most relevant parts of the state of the art of a technological field (Patents, scientific papers, brochures, products)
  • Characterization of plasmas and types of sources and processes

Readings/Bibliography

Copies of the material used during lectures will be given to the students through Virtuale

Teaching methods

Lectures with overhead projector and slides

Assessment methods

Examination procedures: oral presentation (8 minutes) concerning a scientific paper or patent related to one of the topics of the course. The power point presentation will be focused on the description of the investigated setup, the analysis procedures and the discussion of the results.
