Academic Year 2019/2020

  • Docente: Fiorella Sgallari
  • Credits: 3
  • SSD: MAT/08
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Electronic Engineering (cod. 0934)

Learning outcomes

The course provides mathematical foundations of numerical methods, analyzes their theoretical properties and demonstrates their use with engineering examples. For each class of problems, scientific computing algorithms are reviewed, theoretical analyses are carried out and the expected results are verified using MATLAB

in the parallel course 90391 - LABORATORIO DI METODI NUMERICI M - 3 cfu

Course contents

Direct and iterative methods for solving large linear systems

Numerical solution of large nonlinear systems

Polynomial interpolation

Numerical solution of Partial differential Equations: Finite Difference Methods.

Application of the studied numerical methods to problems of image processing.

Teaching methods

Lectures are supported by exercises and projects helded in didactic laboratories in the course 90391 - LABORATORY OF NUMERICAL METHODS M - 3 cfu.

Assessment methods

The exam consists of an oral test or, if integrated with the course 90391 - LABORATORY OF NUMERICAL METHODS M - 3 cfu, in the realization and discussion of a project assigned during the lessons.

Teaching tools

The course, if attended together with the course 90391 - LABORATORY OF NUMERICAL METHODS M - 3 credits, is completed by a laboratory activity with the use of advanced software packages.
