Learning outcomes

t the end of the course the student has a preparation that allows him to understand the propedeutical notions of psychiatry, the clinical characteristics of the two most widespread diagnostic groupings of psychiatric disorders, the rudiments of some other groups of psychiatric disorders, and in particular the qualifying aspects ( for assistance in dentistry and dental prostheses and for the relationship with the patient) deducible from psychiatric knowledge in an interdisciplinary perspective. In particular, the student is able to: • know the concept of mental illness and its genesis, the notion of psychiatric diagnosis, the current nosography (DSM-IV-TR), the concept of prevention and promotion of mental health, essential characteristics of 'psychiatric public assistance, elements of psychopathology, elements of good clinical practice in the therapeutic-rehabilitation field, essential elements of the relationship with the patient in a multi-professional therapeutic system; • recognize the most frequently encountered psychiatric disorders, ie the group of Anxiety Disorders and the group of Mood Disorders; • recognize some other groups of psychiatric disorders, potentially implicated: eating disorders, personality disorders, somatoform disorders, substance use disorders, schizophrenia and other psychoses; • coordinate the knowledge of specific psychiatric symptoms or clinical pictures, with good clinical practice in care and in the relationship with the dental patient, in an integrated multidisciplinary perspective; • have the basis to manage the relationship with the unreasonable patient.
