Course contents

The course is divided into 4 parts.

The first part is dedicated to the illustration of the institutions of public law essential for understanding and learning the information and communication law, which are the subject of the second and third part of the course, devoted respectively to the general notions and the sectors of information, communication, entertainment and, in the fourth part, the analysis of the protection of intellectual properties.

In particular, will be the subject of study in the following topics:
I - Public Law
The legal system and the system of sources of law
International law and European Union law
Constitutional models and fundamental rights
The President of the Republic, the Government, the Parliament, the Constitutional Court
The governing and the guarantees bodies of the information system

II - Freedom of information and communication
Fundamental rights, freedom of expression and democratic form of the state
The freedom of information within the constitutional framework
The limits to freedom of expression
The right to report, criticism and satire rights
Public communication

III - The sectors of information and communication
Press
Broadcasting
Telecommunications
Internet
The areas of entertainment: cinema, theater and performing arts

IV- The protection of intellectual properties. And introduction to the regulating system
The rights of authorship and related rights
Protected works
The protection of figurative works, photographic, cinematographic, audiovisual and television

Teaching methods

The course is articulated in lectures. There will be carried critical readings of articles from newspapers and specialist publications as a result of brief presentations by the students.
There will be organized some seminars optional, in order to depth issues of particular interest, held by guests or other teachers and researchers.

Assessment methods

The exam is written, and it focuses on the topics listed in the program.

The written exam consists of 32 multiple choice questions. One correct answer= 1 point (18 correct answers= 18; 30 correct answers= 30; 32 correct answers= 30 e lode). At the end of the test the students immediately will know if they have passed the exam and which is the exam grade.
In case of positive result of the written test (more then 18 correct answers) , and only to the date set for the appeal hearing immediately after the date of the written test, the student can apply to take an oral exam; the outcome of this test helps in all respects to the final evaluation. ERASMUS students can also take the exam only in oral form.
