Furthermore, students will be able to: make a connection between multiple variables to perform complex analysis of specific educational environments; design a case study to deepen the knowledge of new or less studied educational fields and reflect autonomously upon them; structure a project presentation and report on progress and results of an empirical research; communicate clearly and correctly the results of an educational research using different communication channels and registers; use proper tools to monitor his/her own learning process, reflect upon it and activate a process of revision in order to improve it.

Course contents

The course is designed to promote the development of empirical research expertise in the field of education.

Contents include: research in education; steps and phases of quantitative and qualitative research approches; choice of research design and methods; tools for data collection, elaboration and interpretation, dissemination of research results; planning and construction of a questionnaire and grids for conducting interviews and focus groups.

Readings/Bibliography

Teaching methods

The course will be delivered in blended mode that includes lectures, classroom group work and activities on the Moodle platform.

Classroom activities will be carried out focusing on active teaching methods (interactive lessons, case studies, teamworks) with a continuous enhancement of the direct experiences of the participants and the interactions between students.

The students will be involved in an empirical survey also according to the internship activities and the preparation of the final thesis.

Assessment methods

During the course formative assessment will be carried out mainly through feedback related to the activities on the platform. This is to promote self-regulation and external regulation by peers and teacher.

Summative assessment will be carried out through an oral test. The ability to understand the declarative, procedural and contextual knowledge contained in the bibliography will be assessed as well as the ability to apply them in simulated situations, to grasp the interconnections, to identify assumptions and consequences.
