Learning outcomes
The final outcome is a satisfactory degree of knowledge of the main topics in Economics: both theoretical models of behaviour of the agents and their empirical evidence as a way to intrerpret the reality. Thus, the student will be able to apply their predictions in order to solve macroeconomics puzzles. Furthermore, he would be able to understand the most relevant aspects of the current political debate (the role of stabilization policies, the obstacles to growth, the international constraints).
Course contents
The well-grounded and consolidated Mcroeconomics in a non-advanced
form is the subject of the course.
The syllabus is:
1) The market: demand, supply and equilibrium;
2) gross domestic product;
3) the determinants of economic growth;
4) savings, investments and the financial system;
5) aggregate demand and aggregate supply;
6) fiscal policy;
7) money, banking system and monetary policy;
8) a special focus on one of the main current issues
Readings/Bibliography
Paul Krugman - Robin Wells, Macreoconomics, 3rd ed. (2nd it. ed., Zanichelli, 2013). Further teaching facilities (the slides of the lectures, graphs, tables, in-depth focus, readings suggestion) will be available on-line just following the class. Further readings, if any, would be recommended in due time. Everything would be available in the Teaching Material sub-section of the Teaching-section in the teacher's official web-site.
Teaching methods
Traditional class-lectures articulated into six hours a week, plus the tutorials. The class notes will have the power point format and transparencies too will be used.
Assessment methods
The final examination has a written form only and is made up
of 17 multiple-choice questions and an open question. The
evaluation rank is expressed into thirties. The aim is at assessing
the achievement of a reasonable knowledge of the topics as well as
of an ability of dealing with them substantially, and of
the capacity of interpreting the main features of the economic
reality.
Only for students attending the class a mid-term examination is
possible, which will represent a substantrial part of the total exam. The list will
be managed by the professor directly. Students can refuse the
positive mark with an immediate written communication to the teacher. The electronic registration will be
done by the teacher just after the publicity of the
results.
The registration for participating in the exams must have an
electronic form only. In order to avoid possible technical
problems, students are recommended to print and save their
enrollment. In fact, no one can participate in the exams without
being registered.
Teaching tools
The array of teaching facilities is the following:
1) six hour lecturing a week by the professor;
2) the presence of a tutor for an in-depth analysis, and general
tutorials;
3) two hour tutoring a week by the tutor;
4) four office-hours a week by the professor;
5) two office-hours a week by the tutor;
6) a prospective seminar by an external scholar.
