  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Statistical Sciences (cod. 8873)

Learning outcomes

The student learns the fundamental principles of the relational data model and of the relational database management systems. In particular, the student will be able to understand the structure of a relational database, the integrity constraints on data and the SQL query language.

  • Conceptual model (Entity - Relationship diagram)
  • Logical model (relations)

Data Base management

  • Data base management systems (DBMS)

A language to query data bases: SQL

  • Data definition and manipulation
  • Query data bases

Data analysis

  • Extract data, information
  • Create data views

Data quality

Data and text mining applications

Readings/Bibliography

Lectures are mainly based on the book: "A First Course in Database Systems" di Jeff Ullman e Jennifer Widom.

Teaching methods

Lectures will be held mainly in computer room. Special theoretical topics and seminars will be part of the course.

Assessment methods
