37646 - Principles of Chemical Engineering Laboratory T

Academic Year 2018/2019

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (cod. 8887)

Learning outcomes

Knowledge of instruments and methods of experimental research in transport phenomena and process engineering

Course contents

The laboratory is constituted by a number of experimental experience which will initially presented and explained by the professo in the classroom and then will be be perfomed by the students in the laboratory under the upervision of the professor or of laboratory technicians.

The different experience will be focused on the following topics:

  1. Pressure drop and head-capacity curve of a centrifugal pump, flow characteristics of a control valve.
  2. Ultrafiltration in a spiral wound module.
  3. Evaluation Gas-liquid mass transfer coefficient in a stirred tank.
  4. Evaluation of Diffusion coefficient in liquids.
  5. Evaluation of Diffusion coefficient in gas (diffusion in stagnant fluid)

Teaching methods

Groups of students (4 to 5) will perform the experiments with the assistance of a technician, then will draw up a report.

Assessment methods

Discussion of the reports.
