01016 - Town-Planning Technique (A)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student has the basic knowledge related both to the analysis and project of interventions for the transformation of urban spaces and to the evaluation of specific effects and problems of their implementation. In particular, the student is able to: - size, process and represent a project of urban transformation in reference to the regulations and the planning tools in force and to the practices, methods and languages of the urban planning discipline.

Course contents

The Town-Planning Technique module (4 CFU, 48 hours) is part of the Lab-based Course on Town Planning (Integrated Course 12 CFU, 168 hours), which is also formed by the main unit/course Town-Planning (8CFU, 120 hours).

In the Studio, whose title is “REGENERATION STRATEGIES AND NEW PATHS IN SMALL TOWNS”,the Town Planning Technique module will focus on the theoretical subjects related to the design exercise proposed, referring to some emerging issues in the contemporary debate on urban regeneration. In detail the module will approach the following themes: the project of territorial networks and green networks; the project of the road network and the policies for sustainable mobility; the regeneration of the public space: masterplanning and temporary uses; The project of green areas and sport facilities; participation in urban regeneration practices; drawing and representation in urban design.

The Town Planning Technique lectures will be held in class and will provide to the students the theoretical framework that is needed to develop the design Studio; each lecture will be followed by an assignment and by a list of recommended readings on the topic discussed.

Readings/Bibliography

Aim of the Design Studio is to test urban design projects that are focused on urban regeneration and reuse. Specific references about these topics will be delivered to the students during the lectures.

Teaching methods

The module includes lectures and seminars for the assessment of the students' work, led together with the teachers of the Planning Studio.

 

Assessment methods

The module is an integral part of the Planning Studio, and the assessment takes place during the year, also through the verification of the project work developed by the students.

The final assessment includes the discussion on the basis of the contents of both the units/courses that form the Lab-based Course.

The final assessment is oral, focused on the presentation of the students' work, and on its discussion referring to the general themes of the course.
