Learning outcomes

The student should mandatorily be able to know the main techniques to preserve the biological specimens to be sent to the laboratory of pathology and the information useful to the pathologist in order to formulate a correct diagnosis.
It is also critical to know the international criteria to label the diseases in medicine and pathology, the concepts of grading and staging in neoplastic and non-neoplastic disease, and the difference between prognostic and predictive criteria in the patological diagnosis.

the relevance of a precise specification of all methods used by the pathologist (electron microscopy, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology) should be accurately specified in the diagnostic report.

The usefulness of autopsy in the interpretation of sudden death should also be perceived

Course contents

I am going to deal with renal and autoimmune pathology, and with sudden and unexpected death. Periodical updates should be checked in my website. The general programme of the course should be downloaded from the site of professors Tallini and Agostinelli.

Readings/Bibliography

The text adopted (robbins cotran kumar: pathologic basis of disease 9th edition) is missing an accurate update in many parts and renal pathology appears to be unreliable. The attendance of lectures should be considered to be mandatory. Pdf stuff is available in my site
