Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student possesses the knowl-dge to recognize and interpret the main immune mediated diseases (eg allergic diseases, immunodeficiencies, autoimmune diseases and systemic connective tisse diseases). In particular, the student is able to: - interpret the signs, symptoms and laboratory data that characterize immune-mediated diseases; - to know the main allergic diseases and the main allergens, the main signs and symptoms of the organ and set up an appropriate therapeutic program; - to interpret signs, symptoms and laboratory data for the proper diagnosis and setting of the major organ and non-organ specific autoimmune diseases, and to know the basis for their treatment; - to interpret signs, symptoms and laboratory data of the most important acquired and primitive immune deficiency syndromes and to know the bases for their treatment.

Course contents

Immune system study and laboratory testing for the diagnosis of immune diseases.


Primitive  (antibody, cell-mediated, phagocytic, complement, combined) and secondary immunodeficiencies

Allergic diseases: generalities, chemical mediators, methods of investigation.

Major pathologies (allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, bronchial asthma, food allergy, atopic dermatitis, anaphylaxis).

Treatments for allergic diseases.

Organ and non-organ specific autoimmunity : pathogenetic mechanisms, clinical and laboratory characteristics.

Systemic Connective tissue diseaes: Systemic Syndrome Lupus, Sjögren Syndrome, Scleroderma, Polymyositis and Dermatomyositis, Mixed Connective Diseases.

Vasculitis setting.
