Prokaryotes and eukaryotes General organization of the cell. Syncytia and plasmodia.

Cell membrane

Membrane structure and functions Fluid mosaic. Transport across cell membranes. Glycocalyx. Non-junctional adhesiveness. Permeability. Specializations.

Cytoskeleton

Microfilaments. Intermediate filaments. Microtubules. Composition and function of microfilaments. Amoeboid movement. Actin and ancillary proteins. Contractility of the cell. - Composition and function of the intermediate filaments. - Microtubules: tubulin, ancillary proteins and microtubule-organizing centers. Cilia and flagella

Intercellular junctions.

Cytoplasm

Cytosol and inclusions Chemical composition, physical properties, and functions of the cytosol.

Cytoplasmic organelles

Endoplasmic reticulum Structure and functions of rough and smooth reticulum.

Apparatus of Golgi Structure and functions. Vesicular transport. Exocytosis.

Lysosomes Structure and functions. Endocytosis. Clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Phagocytosis. Autophagocytosis.

Frontal lessons

Assessment methods

The learning assessment will include the examination of slides at light microscopy that is introductory to the oral exam. The students who failed the slide test are not admitted to the oral exam. The oral exam is a conversation about Cytology, Histology and Embryology according to the contents published in Histology and Embryology 1 and Histology and Embryology 2 courses. A low mark in one of the three parts precludes the whole exam. The student can choose to keep the mark of examination of slides (valid until December 2019) or to repeat it. In the opinion of the examiners, the final assessment will be the weighted average of the three results.

The online registration to the examination is mandatory.
