  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Architecture (cod. 0881)

Course contents

The course consists in the design of a public building in the historic center of an Italian city, in a context of remarkable architectural value.

The student will be guided in the assumption of the principles on which the existing city is built and the project will attempt to be integrated in the surrounding urban fabric.

The aim is an architecture respondent to the contemporary expectations, according to the transformations imposed by the present, but able to cohabit and dialog with the existing one. We will drive our interest on the typological aspects, the morphology, the tectonic and the use of materials. The purpose is to reach an architectural matter equivalent, if not superior, to the transmitted one, giving continuity to the tradition of the Italian and European city.

The course will comprise a series of lectures, the execution of mid-term exercises and a final project by the students.

Theoretical and critical investigations on contemporary architecture, specifically when focusing on the topic of memory, will be included.

The lessons will be related both to the knowledge of themes from ancient architectures and to theoretical and practical arguments of architects whose works can be considered paradigmatic for the way architecture is thought and built.

The seminars will focus on the students' works, with an evaluation of the their project themes to address their development.
