16692 - Computer Science Lab-based Course

Academic Year 2017/2018

  • Teaching Mode: Blended Learning
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Expert Social And Cultural Education (cod. 8776)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the laboratory students have knowledge to understand the basic structure of Internet, the most important tool of the World Wide Web (e-mail, instant messaging, social networking, ...) and the debate on the knowledge and network society; they are also able to use ICT to find, assess, produce, present and exchange information and to communicate and participate to collaborative networks on Internet; they can analyze and evaluate critically tools and technologies for teaching and learning; they are able to use ICT for critical thinking, creativity and innovation; they are able to use ICT to design, document, monitor and assess activities.

Course contents

Erasmus students can contact the teacher to get more information: labs are in Italian, so it is fundamental to have at least a level A2 in Italian. Each lab is 24 hours and you must attend all lectures (only 25% of absence).

It is also possible to preparare some materials (blended learning activities) in order to get the 3 ECTS (contact the professor for more information).

BLENDED LEARNING PROGRAMME
This Blended Learning Laboratory aims to stimulate students to explore some useful online resources for the work of the educator. Knowing how to search for online video resources, creating a blog with video components, learning about some of the most useful online presentation/organization content tools will be the main actions that the student will perform.

Summary of Learning Objectives:
• Know one or more useful online tools for educational / educational activity
• Know how to research themes on online resources
• Schematicize data and connect to others
• Explore online media publishing tools
For any information and clarification regarding the course program and the following activities, students can contact Dr. Alessandro Soriani (alessandro.soriani2@unibo.it).

Course contents (in presence)

Calendar are published online Almaesami.

Group A: Pacetti
Online Resources for Education
Teacher: Elena Pacetti - elena.pacetti@unibo.it
The lab aims to know, analyze, evaluate and experiment the online education resources to understand the potential they can have in the educational and didactic field.

Group B: Ferrari
Peer instruction and interactive digital environments
Teacher: Luca Ferrari - luca.ferrari15@unibo.it
The lab intends to deepen, through classroom exercises and simulations, the theme of peer instruction according to the model proposed by E. Mazur (Mazur E., (1998). Peer Instruction: A User's Manual. US: Pearson). Mobile technologies and software / environments available on the web today allow more than ever to effectively implement this model centered on the peer discussion led by the educator / trainer / teacher.

Group D: Corazza
Digital Video: From Production to Sharing.
Teacher: Laura Corazza - laura.corazza@unibo.it

The lab is an opportunity to reflect on the use of audio-visual language for training purposes. We will look at the features of the world's most widely used digital video distribution and sharing channel, YouTube, by analyzing the most common strategies and uses. Thanks to the resources and spaces of the Laboratory System of the Department of Education Sciences, you will be able to examine some of the instruments for recording digital video (cameras, microphones, lights) by testing usage.

Group E: Betti
Personal Learning Environment: Tools and Online Learning
Teacher: Maurizio Betti - maurizio.betti4@unibo.it

The lab proposes presenting, discussing and applying different concepts and tools to support learning experience: Web 2.0, Social Network, Personal Learning Environment. These concepts are translated into the identification and utilization of digital tools and contexts that support both content production and social networking for building learning. Each student will define his/her own learning project that he/she will accomplish by recognizing / constructing and using his/her own PLE. One of the expected results is the creation of a personal blog and the production of digital content in various formats: text, images and videos.

Group F: Norfo
Creative Computer Laboratory Group 1
Teacher: Alessandro Norfo (alessandro.norfo2@unibo.it)

The laboratory proposes the use of computer technology in an active way, as an instrument to express icreativity and to develop computational thinking. Students will learn the basic concepts of computer programming through Scratch (http://scratch.mit.edu/), a free and open visual language, especially suitable for children and young people, but also for those who approach for the first time Programming. Students will create simple video games and interactive animations, experimenting, collaborating and reflecting on their learning process, in order to then use the knowledge and skills acquired in different educational contexts. No prior knowledge of computer programming is required.

Group G: Norfo
Creative Computer Laboratory Group 2

Group H: Biblioteca (Barbino)

Digital competences to research traditional and electronic library resources

Teacher: Federico Barbino - federico.barbino@unibo.it

This lab aims to give competences in the methodology of library research.

At the end of the lab students will be able to:

• knowing how to access services of Bologna's territory libraries;

• using online catalogues (OPAC SOL & ACNP) and find documents;

• autonomously searching references for scientific purposes (dissertation, papers, etc.)

• selecting research tools and assess results.

The lab will use blended learning methodologies and collaborative learning.

Readings/Bibliography

The teacher of your lab will give you recommended reading and other contents to study.

Teaching methods

This is a laboratory with practical exercises to be done during lectures and at home.

It is recommended to follow the instructions of the teacher in order to obtain the "idoneità" (final evaluation).

Assessment methods

Specific assessment can be agreed with the teacher of your lab. This Laboratory does not have grade, but "idoneità" (pass/fail evaluation).

Teaching tools

Lectures are usually in the computer lab with pc and interactive whiteboard.
