Learning outcomes

By the end of the course students will have gained a basic knowledge of the language and the culture of the Low Countries.

Course contents

Linguistic activities with the following themes: Identity (name, occupation, family), Space (house and home, nation, origin), Time (counting, chronology, narrative /Tense and time), Things and processes (eating and drinking, buying and selling, booking and ordering, presenting; taste, preference and habits). Phonology and Morphology: vowels, consonants and diphthongs; syllables, compounds. Grammar: the main clause, the verbal group, time and aspect, modality, nouns and adjectives. Pronouns, prepositions and adverbs.
