Learning outcomes

At the end of the seminars, students will acquire competences in interpreting specific topics related to philology, literature and history, or necessary to the creation and improvement of their background.

Course contents

The course will be based on the reading and translation of important literary passages, focusing on the particular stylistic and linguistic characteristics of these texts, their historical and literary background, also in a didactic context. The passages to be read and analysed – taken from works of the fifth and fourth centuries B.C. – will be agreed by the teacher with the students. Classroom participation is essential.

Timetable and venue : Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 1.00 pm-3.00 pm, Dipartimento di Filologia Classica e Italianistica, via Zamboni 32, stanza IV (1th floor).

Readings/Bibliography

The texts in Greek to be analysed will be distributed as photocopies during the lessons. Bibliographical references for in-depth study of these texts will be given during the course.

Teaching methods

The seminars will be based on continuous interaction between teacher and students.

Assessment methods

Assessment for this course, in order to obtain a pass certification, consists of an oral examination, during which the student, with reference to one of the passages studied during the course, will be asked to present the historical and literary context and to read and analyse with attention to both style and language.
