Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student: - has an active and passive basic knowledge of the French language. In particular, the student is able to: - read, take notes, follow a discussion in French - deal with specialist political and media language in French-speaking cultures.

Course contents

Course title: "Discours sur l'immigration et la francisation au Québec"

The course aims to equip the learner with tools for analyzing the discourse of media information. At the end of the course, the student will be able to recognize the implicit discursive in an ideological and political discourse to understand the text in-depth. The texts being analyzed concern the question of immigration in Québec, its narration in official discourse and in the media (daily press, documentaries, political campaigns, tourism discourse) and the linguistic dimension of intercultural exchange in French Canada.

Assessment methods

ATTENDING STUDENTS

The exam consists of two parts: Language exercises (written exam with the readers, first part of the course in the second semester) + Monographic course (written exam with the teacher, second part of the course in the second semester). The final grade is calculated on the weighted average of the two parties.

The language exercises exam takes place at the end of the first 30 hours in the second semester.

Development of the examination MONOGRAPHIC COURSE

· The exam will take place on www.eol.unibo.it.

· The exam lasts one hour.

· The exam consists of 20 closed-ended questions on issues of understanding of the text.

FOR NON ATTENDING STUDENTS

The exam (which will take place online on the ZOOM application) consists of three parts (one written and one oral) to be held in the same exam session.

A) WRITTEN TEST

· (40 minutes) verification of grammar knowledge. Passing the written test (18/30) is necessary to access the oral exam.

· The written test will take place on www.eol.unibo.it. Students must log in to the ZOOM room (download and log in with unibo credentials; the link to the room is on EOL) at least twenty minutes before the start of the test. Students will need to share their screen and keep their webcam on.

Passed written test: access to the oral part (point B)

· Written test not passed: Those who do not pass the written test cannot access the oral tests but will have to present themselves again at another exam. There is no leap of appeal.

· GRAMMAR PROGRAM FOR THE WRITTEN TEST

o definite and indefinite articles

o articulated prepositions

o personal pronouns (subject, tonic, object and term complement)

o pronouns "en" and "y"

o conjugation of the three groups in all tenses and all modes, including subjunctive, present participle, gerund and verbal adjective. The remote past is excluded.

o gender and number of nouns and adjectives (formation of the feminine and plural)

o possessive and demonstrative adjectives and pronouns

o negative form with all its specificities

o interrogative form in its 3 modalities

o pronominal verbs

o partitive articles and their negative form

o prepositions and phrases of time (il y a, depuis etc.), of place (devant, derrière, face à etc.), prepositions with geographical names (countries and regions)

o use of: "très, beaucoup et beaucoup de"

o indefinite adjectives and pronouns (quantity and quality)

o essentially impersonal verbs / constructions of impersonal verbs)

o simple and compound relative pronouns

o three Gallicisms

o choice of: "ce" or "il" devant i a être (c’est / il est)

o formation of the adverbs of quantity, place and time

o constructions with opinion verbs (use of the subjunctive or not)

o passive form

o three degrees of the hypothesis

o indirect speech in the past tense with specific changes to the sentence (si, ce que)

o various articulators of the discourse (par rapport à, envers, en revanche, donc etc.)

o preparation for the grammar test can be carried out with the manual used in class: La grammaire progressive du français (A1-B2)

B) Linguistic assessment

The test will take place on ZOOM. Students must show an identity document.

The student will study the dossier of texts that will be available on Virtual: all will be subject to examination. The student will be questioned in French about the content of the documents in the dossier.
