Learning outcomes
The workshops are designed to provide students with skills that can prove useful in their future careers. The objective of the workshop is to help students advancing their skills through practice exercises in informational technology, data analysis, analysis in decision-making techniques (e.g. simulation) in complex organizations.
Course contents
Qualitative methods in the social sciences, particularly in-depth interviews and ethnography.
Teaching methods
The course is based on a hands-on approach, focused on the collection of qualitative data by students. Data as well as methodological issues are successively presented and discussed in class.
Assessment methods
Students may choose to work alone or in groups of 2-3 people. Each individual or group will focus on a sociological issue on which they will collect data through in-depth interviews and/or ethnography. Drafting a research plan will be part of the course itself. The findings will be presented and discussed in class.
