Course contents

The outdoor training is an innovative method that takes place outside of the traditional educational contexts ( classrooms ) and proposes that participation in outdoor activities , very engaging on the floor being. The end of the FO is the acquisition and development of special skills and social skills such as cooperation , teamwork , confidence in themselves and in others , leadership , accountability , communication effectiveness etc .. The FO proposes having engaged in extreme and emotionally charged ( everything happens anyway in security ) based on the assumption that learning processes are facilitated if associated with strong emotions .

- Why sailing? The sailboat "forced" cooperation. Confined spaces, the different tasks and roles to be taken to drive the boat, the natural insulation made from water, education in respect of sea navigation and planning are some of the features that make this sport for experience the outdoor training. The experience on a sailing boat can be considered a training very functional; In fact, the ability to cooperate as required by this micro system can be learned, internalized and re-used in other educational contexts: like for instance the residential communities for minors and addicts where members of the educational team are asked to cooperate for long periods closely with colleagues and users and where the capacity of mediation, problem solving and communication skills are elements at all discounted. The outdoor training sailing is one of those experiences "workshop" that allows you to quickly learn the value of teamwork and appreciation of the contributions of all (prerequisites to work well as a team) in favor of a unity of intent; all this in a situation highly addictive from the emotional point of view where the recreational activity mediates learning.

PROGRAM

24 students enrolled in the II / III year of the degree course in Social and Cultural Educator (Rimini branch) of the Faculty of Education, University of Bologna.

The social and cultural educator will thus be able to benefit from learning alternative training methods that can usefully be spent on interventions in situations of psychosocial distress and marginalization. The metaphor of the sailboat, in fact, could be used as a useful parallelism where the planning of a journey / route could symbolically represent the planning of the life path of particularly at-risk subjects (drug addicts, adolescents etc.)

Furthermore, for the social and cultural educator student, direct experience as a user of outdoor training allows one to experience powerful group dynamics and increase their knowledge and to experiment and increase their communicative / relational skills; learning from experience can therefore be an essential component of the path that will prepare it for the future profession of educator.
