Learning outcomes

The student will acquire knowledge regarding the main animal production systems adopted in cattle, pig and poultry production, the relationships between breeding and animal welfare, the influence of genetic, feeding and environmental factors on productive traits and pollutant emission. Moreover, he/she will be able to evaluate the nitrogen balance of a production unit and quantify its environmental impact in terms of greenhouse gases emission.

Course contents

The course of Livestock Farms and Environmental Impact is composed by two sub-courses of 3 CFU each. Sub-course 1, held by dr. Diana Luise, will focus the program on cattle and pigs, whereas sub-course 2, held by dr. Marco Zampiga, will deal with poultry.

Teaching methods

Remote teaching activities will run in parallel with classroom teaching activities (https://www.unibo.it/en/university/covid-19-The-measures-adopted-by-the-University-of-Bologna/lessons-exams-internships).

Assessment methods

Theoretic knowledge of the student will be assessed through an oral examination that will consist of an interview lasting about 20 minutes per sub-course. During this interview, theoretical and applicative knowledge of the student will be verified. The final vote will be calculated as average of grades obtained in both sub-courses.

Criteria for evaluating the acquisition of knowledge / skills:
- understanding of the student about the posed questions;
- ability to connect and compare the different aspects and treated arguments;
- exposure capacity and specific terminology used.

The fulfillment of the three criteria on the entire oral test and for both the sub-course, entails obtaining an evaluation of 30/30 cum laude

Access to the exam is free. The test lasts at least 20 minutes. The date, time and location of the test is published on the courses web site. To register for the exam, the student must be used the AlmaEsami web application.

Students aims in taking the exam in English must contacted the professor at least two days in advance.

Teaching tools

For both sub-courses, the lessons will be traditional lectures (either remote or in classroom) supported by Power point presentation.
