Learning outcomes

Basic principles and main properties of the organometallic compounds. The role of organometallic complexes in the modern industrial processes and their consequences in the environment.

Course contents

prerequisites: Basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of inorganic chemistry and the most important aspects of the structure, properties and reactivity of inorganic compounds. Knowledge of the fundamental principles of thermodynamic and kinetic, organic and industrial chemistry and basic metal redox chemistry.

•The role of organometallic chemistry in the environmental and sustainabilityTaking in account the principles of cyrcular economy and homogeneous catalysis

•Principles of thermodynamic stability and kinetic inertiness ruling the requisites of Organometallic compounds mainly inherent to transition metal groups a)HSAB theory and applications on distinct environmental compartments as soil air water and living beings- c) The role of homogeneous catalysis in exploring particularly the reactivity promoted by metal sites in organo-Inorganic systems in industrial proceduresas synthesis work up and separation processes case hystories on

c) hydrogenation (asymmetrical –topic of interest for farmaceutical chemistry-), carbonylation and olefin metathesis; Metal-Ligand systems for a sustainable and green society based on circular economy ; d) Metal occurrence at the Environment : Essential Trace Metal in Food:

Harmful aspects and pollutions hazard Toxicology or Allergenic implications with regard minor heavy metal belonging to transition or main groups as    Ni, Al, Sn Zn Se;

e) Metals in medicine : State of the art and novel orientations on anticancer therapy

g) Aspects of structural and spectroscopic characterization of metal species(inorganic and organometallic) with the help of a free tutorial

Teaching methods

The course includes class lectures and tutorial activities. Lectures are supported by slide projection.

Assessment methods

Students are asked to take oral examination in one of the scheduled sessions at the end of the course. The exam is aimed at checking the understanding of the student and his/her capacity to correlate the main concepts of inorganic to sustainable chemistry. The student is required to present, also with the help of the board, a preferred topics and the evaluation will be mainly based on the skills, shown by explaining in an extensive and detailed way and on the ability to establish the clue priority of the fundamental aspects in the treated topics.
