Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes will be: a)  basic knowledge about drug metabolism (administration, clearance, therapeutics, adverse effects)

Course contents

GENERAL PHARMACOLOGY. General pharmacokinetics: movement of drugs across cell membranes;  routes of administration and absorption; bioavailability;  distribution of drugs in the body; volume of distribution, binding to plasma proteins; drug metabolism; excretion; time-course of drug plasmatic contents (after single or repeated administration). General pharmacodynamics: targets and mechanisms of drug  action; dose-response curve; agonists, partial agonists, antagonists; individual variations (effects of age, pathological states, drug interactions, tolerance, placebo effects). General toxicity: side-effects, overdose, idiosyncratic and allergic reactions; teratogenesis and foetal toxicity; carcinogenesis; drug dependency. Clinical evaluation.

Integration to General Pharmacology Program ONLY for students belonging to the degree in Health care (certified professional healthcare assistant) Course 78932 Pharmacology (2 CFU module 1 and 2) C.I General Pathology, Pharmacology AND HEALTH EMERGENCY:

1. Medications to control inflammation and pain (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDs and steroid FAS; minor and major opiates)
2. Active drugs in the gastrointestinal system (anti-emetics, and intestinal motility drugs)
3. hints of Antidotism
4. Neuropsychopharmacology (anxiety, depression, antipsychotics, sleep disturbances)

Assessment methods

The evaluation of the knowledge acquired by the students is based on the administration of a single questionnaire composed of 60 questions for the Integrated Course of Pathological Sciences, with multiple choice (4 choices) and a correct answer. questions will be distributed as follows: 30 questions regarding the teaching of General Pathology and Immunology and 10 questions for each of the remaining courses (clinical biochemistry, clinical pathology and General Pharmacology). The total time allowed for the examination is 60 minutes. The test is considered passed positively from 37 correct answers, corresponding to 18/30 vote.
