67031 - Instrumental Analytical Chemistry and Laboratory Laboratory

Course Unit Page

Academic Year 2019/2020

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will know and use the main instrumental analytical techniques. He knows the operation of the main theoretical and practical analytical equipment. He is able to plan and execute a complete analysis and to report the result in a statically correct way. Knows the main analytical instrumentation and is able to perform an analitic determination on the basis of the official regulations. Will be able to identify the most appropriate methodologies and techniques to solve simple analytical problems; to report the work of a lab notebook. It will also be able to process and present experimental results using the most appropriate statistical tests.

Course contents

Teaching methods

The course of instrumental analytical chemistry and laboratory involves front lectures on the theroretical aspects of  the laboratory experiences.. Students should have a bound laboratory notebook for recording all the data at the time of the observation during laboratory classes. The recording of data on loose pieces of paper or in a preliminary note book is expressly forbidden.

Assessment methods

At the end of the course there is an oral examination of unstructured type and will consist in solving problems and in response to questions intended to assess understanding of the topics t. The exam is integrated with  the course of Analytical Chemistry (unique vote). The vote of the course of Analytical Chemistry Instrumental will have a 30% weight.

The evaluation of the lab course will be based:

student behaviour (compliance with accident prevention regulations, use of PPE, proper use of glassware and small instruments), +/- 0.75 to mediate with Lab of Analytical Chemistry
results of one or more analysis, +0.5 to test if the result has an error less than 3%
report on one of the proposed experiments, +/- 0.75

The evaluation of the laboratory integrated with that of the Analytical Chemistry laboratory sum to the evaluation of the theory.
