  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Advanced Design (cod. 9256)

Learning outcomes

Industrial design and engineering methods (ING-IND 15-5 CFU) The module focuses specifically on the innovative tools of representation used in the phase of study and experimental research on and for documentation and project management methodologies and tools. At the end of the course the student knows: addressing the expressive characteristics of the product with special attention to the production stage; describe the project in the three-dimensional representation able to "configure" the product and "validate" the mass production of it.

Course contents

The course aims to carry out pilot projects of medium complexity that depart from conception of an object (concept) to final production, passing through all the intermediate stages: design, development and engineering. Projects may address the widely used systems, vehicles, services or complex products are upstream of the moment of production itself, but they can not ignore the evaluation and integration of knowledge necessary for the realization of the prototype or the production itself. The final proposal results from the assessment of the various factors of production, involving the collaboration of experts from different disciplinary areas, such as the factors relating to the use, enjoyment and individual consumption or social product (functional factors, symbolic or cultural), as to those relating to its production (technical and economic factors, structural engineering, technical and systemic, technical, production and technical-distribution). Aging also of the theoretical and technical knowledge on visual communication, multimedia, interactivity will produce a compelling interactive digital result.

Teaching methods

The course involves lectures, seminars and laboratory. Are assigned to medium complexity projects of goods, services, systems, or vehicles from design, model, simulate and visualize virtually. The exercise must be carried out independently by a group of 2-3 students who, at the end of the course, will have to present in virtual mode and interactive. The work will be reviewed during the hours of exercise.

Assessment methods

The final exam consists of the presentation of the project and the discussion of the design choices implemented, as well as the results obtained.

Teaching tools

The course involves the use of computer lab computers capable of managing interactive 3D graphics.
