Learning outcomes
At the end of the teaching period, students will acquire knowledge of major diseases of the visual apparatus both in evolutional age and in adulthood; students will be familiar with ocular manifestations in the setting of systemic diseases and in diseases of the cranio-facial region; will be acquainted with ocular semeiotics and its role in diagnosis and treatment of ocular, otolaryngological, dental, neurological and internal diseases.
Course contents
DISEASES OF THE ORBIT AND ADNEXAE: Exophtalmos - Blepharitis - Conjunctivitis - Dacriocystitis.
OCULAR SURFACE DISEASES: Dry eye (Graft versus-host disease, S Sjogren).
CORNEAL DISEASES: Keratitis - Corneal ulcer - Keratoconus - Penetrating and lamellar corneal transplantation.
EMERGENCIES IN OPHTHALMOLOGY: Foreign bodies - Corneal lesions - Acute retinal diseases - etc...
RETINAL DISEASES: Local vascular pathologies - Retinal detachment - Retinoblastoma - Diabetic retinopathy - Hypertensive retinopathy - Different types of maculopathy.
DISEASES OF THE UVEA: Uveitis - Melanoma.
PRIMARY AND SECONDARY GLAUCOMA: Pathophysiology of aqueous humour, diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.
CATARACT: Surgery and complications.
STRABISMUS: Comitant and incomitant strabismus - Amblyopia - Refractive errors.
NEURO-OPHTHALMOLOGY: Optic neuropathies - Chiasmatic lesions - Post-chiasmatic lesions - Cortical blindness and visual agnosia - Gaze palsy - Pupil: physiology and pathophysiology.
