Course contents

The workshop "Re-qualify the post-war city" (16 CFU) as well as this characterizing teaching (Architecture and architectural composition III, 7CFU) is also made up of the following teachings: History of the contemporary city (3CFU), Landscape aesthetics (2 CFU), Architectural and urban composition I (2 CFU) and Architecture and urban landscape (2 CFU).

Architectural and urban composition I. The main theme of the class is the shape of the public urban space. The city is a continuous succession of voids defined by buildings. Urban void is a potentiality for the city. It is a scenographic space where actions happen, people and objects related. To transform the urban void into a collective place, emptiness must be defined with measure, proportion, recognizable character. The activities of the class, which include exercises and lectures, aim to develop analytical and design skills, that are necessary for urban regeneration.

Assessment methods

The workshop "Re-qualify the post-war city" (16 CFU) as well as this characterizing teaching (Architecture and architectural composition III, 7CFU) is also made up of the following teachings: History of the contemporary city (3CFU), Landscape aesthetics (2 CFU), Architectural and urban composition I (2 CFU) and Architecture and urban landscape (2 CFU). The suitability test includes the learning verification of the contents of all the lessons that comprise it and takes place in a single test.

At the end of the workshop each student will have contributed with writings and graphics works to produce a dossier in which the results of the activity carried out by the entire laboratory will flow together. The final qualification test will take place as part of a collective public exhibition of the results achieved in the analysis and design of the different case studies, articulated with projection of the results achieved, duly commented by each student for the part of their competence. The commission will be made up of the entire teaching staff of the laboratory.

For the achievement of eligibility, it must be verified for each student, the acquisition of the conceptual tools deemed necessary for the correct setting of the degree thesis work and a sufficient state of advancement of the analytical and planning framework of each case study.
