Learning outcomes


At the end of the course the student has acquired the knowledge on the basic medical evaluation of the main pathologies of the locomotor apparatus, in particular: congenital deformities, growth and degenerative pathologies of adult and old age. The student is able to know the methods of diagnostic study of these pathologies, the main therapeutic options, both conservative and surgical, the principles of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of traumas involving the musculoskeletal system.

Course contents


1) Introduction to anatomy, histology, embryology 2) Osteopathies and genotypic chondrodysplasias (imperfect osteogenesis) 3) Congenital malformations (vertebral column, myogenic torticollis, congenital dysplasia of the hip, congenital clubfoot) 4) Growth alterations (scoliosis, Scheuermann's m., Spondylolysis-holistesis, epiphysiolysis, apophysiolysis, osteochondrosis, limb dysmetries, vare knees and valgus, flat foot and hollow foot) 5) Infant neuro-muscular alterations (obstetric paralysis, spastic paralysis, poliomyelitis) 6) Changes on a circulatory basis (osteonecrosis, algodystrophy) 7) Articular, tendinous, aponeurotic alterations (arthrosis, scapulohumeral periarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondyloarthritis, pains of discal origin: cervical and lumbar, forefoot deformity) 8) Infectious alterations (osteomyolites, osteo-articular tuberculosis) 9) Endocrine and metabolic alterations (hyperparathyroidism, rickets, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, gout, Paget m.) 10) Tumors and pseudotumoral lesions (classification, diagnosis, staging, therapy, pseudotumoral lesions, metastatic tumors) 11) Traumatic lesions (general principles, therapy, diaphyseal fractures, fractures of the neck of the femur, fractures and vertebral dislocations, lesions of the meniscuses and knee ligaments) 12) General principles of hand and upper limb surgery 13) General principles of physical therapy and rehabilitation
