Learning outcomes

The elective course aims to raise awareness of the neurological and psychiatric diseases of the developmental age in a clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic sense, with the aim of contributing to the overall education of the student in the medical-surgical field. The student will learn about the pathologies of child neuropsychiatry and pediatrics, their etiopathogenesis, to have an in-depth orientation on the type of diagnostic assessment and medical, surgical and rehabilitative treatment.

Course contents

- Neurodevelopmental disorders, with particular attention to autism spectrum disorders: definition, clinic, differential diagnosis, etiopathogenesis
- Evaluation tools to support clinical diagnosis in neurodevelopmental disorders
- The prognosis of neurodevelopmental disorders
- Indications on the enabling interventions in neurodevelopmental disorders

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons using PowerPoint presentations.

Attending the lessons is very important for the learning and therefore for the exam.

Assessment methods

Oral exam, consisting of two questions, aimed at evaluating the achievement of the following educational objectives:
- knowledge of the typical and atypical development of the child;
- knowledge of the main neurodevelopmental disorders, in particular of autism spectrum disorders, and related diagnostic tools;
- knowledge of some general concepts related to prognosis and to the enabling intervention in neurodevelopmental disorders.

The exam will be passed if the result will be al least sufficient, that is 18/30. The highest grade will be 30 cum laude and it will be obtained by answering the questions appropriately with good abilities to show and rehash the covered topics.

Each topic covered in class can be examined.

Aids will only be possible in specific cases according to the regulations in force.
