Learning outcomes
Students will become able to recognize a condition of normality or
of gross abnormality in various upper abdominal disease, knowing
how to approach the use of an ultrasound scanner. They will lear
the principles, indications, modality of safe perfomance and
expected outcomes of major ultrasound guided interventional
procedures.

Attendance to the entire course is compulsory. The pass certificate will be released after passing of the final test and multiple choice quizzes at the end of the course.
The programs is integrated of 3 intermingled didactic courses held by prof. F. Piscaglia, dr. A. Granito and Prof. L. Bolondi.

European Course Book in Ultrasound, which be dowloaded for free
from the www.efsumb.org website either in the extended full version
or in the Student Edition. The extended version also be purchased
online in a printed colour figure version.

Teaching methods
1. Traditional lectures
2. Practical demonstrations in the lecture halls perfomed by the
teacher and projected on the large screen with the use of a video
beamer
3. Hands on practical training in small groups on ultrasound
scanners with the opportunity to personally attempt to perform and
ultrasonography under the supervision of tutors
Approximately 80% of the course will be held with the method
reported under point 1, 10% as in point 2 and 10% as in point
3
Assessment methods
The assessment will be performed through a multiple choice test at
the end of the course.
Teaching tools
The course will include traditional lectures with the use of
computer and a videobeamer to project slides, but also an
ultrasound scanner will be connected to project images during
demonstrations.
Practical hand-on sessions are also planned during which the
students will become acquainted with conventional ultrasound
expoliting the opportunity to visualize organs in the abdomen and
neck personally under the supervision of a tutor.
