Learning outcomes

The course provides mathematical foundations of numerical methods, analyzes their theoretical properties and demonstrates their use with engineering examples. For each class of problems, scientific computing algorithms are reviewed, theoretical analyses are carried out and the expected results are verified using MATLAB.

Direct and Iterative methods for solving large linear systems

Numerical solution of large nonlinear systems

Polynomial interpolation

Numerical integration

Numerical solution of Partial differential Equations: Finite Difference Methods.

Application of the studied numerical methods to problems of image processing.
