Learning outcomes
The objectives of the course are the follows:
1) improve the theoretical and practical knowledge of a tumour (Prostatic cancer) with a very high social and epidemiological impact (most frequent tumour in men over 50 years old in West countries), focusing on most innovative aspects with respect of diagnosis and treatments
2) improve the theoretical and practical knowledge of a tumour (renal cancer) with high social impact (due to the prevalence and the trend to recurrence) focusing on most innovative aspects with respect of diagnosis, treatments and prevention;
3) improve the theoretical and practical knowledge of genito-urinary malformation of upper urinary tract and mini-invasive surgical techniques of surgical correction.
Course contents
The course attempt to learning the main aspects related to the surgical treatment of prostate cancer , namely the radical prostatectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection
The surgical skills of radical prostatectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection would be explained and the main complications (urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction) would be discussed.
The lessons would be mainly focused on robotic prostatectomy, in comparison with traditional techniques (both open and laparoscopic prostatectomy), underlying the technical advantages anf the results offered by robotic technology
The actual scientific literature and the aspects concerning the robotic surgical anatomy, as well as the techniques of robotic dissection, nerve sparing and anastomosis, would be widely discussed,
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons will take place at Aula Corrado, Pad 1 Policlinico Sant'Orsola- Malpighi, with powerpoint and didactical video-materials of robotic prostatectomy intervention.
Students will have the oportunity to assist to robotic prostatectomy directly in operating room at Nuove Patologie Pad 5 second floor Piastra B (policlinico Sant'Orsola-Malpighi).
