Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student knows:

- who is the patient suffering from Severe Acquired Brain Injury and the correct approach to these patients;

- Multidisciplinary team work;

- the main evaluation scales;

- the role and skills of the speech therapist in the rehabilitation process of this patient.

Furthermore, it is able to:

- use the LCF scale to classify patients with GCA;

- make a qualitative observation of the dysphagic aspects in this type of patient, identifying the main risks and possible rehabilitative interventions;

- recognize the main acquired language deficits and the possible rehabilitative strategies.

Course contents

The course aims to acquire theoretical / practical skills related to the patient with severe acquired brain injury, along the entire rehabilitation process: from the acute phase to the outcomes.

The theoretical lessons will be alternated with moments of discussion and exchange between teacher and students, accompanied by the vision of videos of patients presenting the clinical pictures of interest and exercises, in order to make the contents practical and highly professional.

The main topics covered in the course are:

  • Theoretical / practical approach to the patient with severe acquired brain injury with particular attention to the guided interaction terapy
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Evaluation scales
  • Role and skills of the speech therapist in the rehabilitation process of the patient with severe acquired brain injury
