Learning outcomes

The student has, at the end of the module, general knowledge relating to the field of microbiology and clinical microbiology; has also knowledge on cellular and molecular basis of microbial pathogenicity, interactions between microorganism and host, on the clinical and diagnostic aspects of microbiological and virological analysis.

Course contents

General information on infectious diseases; BACTERIA: Structure of bacterial cell; pathogenis of bacteria, bacterial growth and replication; cultivation of bacteria, vaccines and antibacterial drugs; Major bacteria of clinical interest. VIRUS: General information on the virus: structure, classification, replication,  virus pathogenesis; cell culture and virus cultivation ;  Main viruses of clinical  interest. FUNGI: structure of the fungal cell growth and replication, classification; main  fungi of mediacl interest. Laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases. Clinical microbiology: Respiratory tract infections, infections of the central nervous system, infections of the genito-urinary tract, gastro-intestinal infection, sepsis, opportunistic and nosocomial infections.
