39325 - Imaging Techniques in Senology and Stomatology

Academic Year 2017/2018

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Rimini
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Imaging and Radiotherapy techniques (cod. 8486)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student has expertise in odontostomalic, endo and extraoral techniques and first level mammography techniques.

Course contents

First-level mammographic techniques:

-description of mammographic apparatus dedicated to all its components,
-analog and digital detection systems,
-standard projections, technique and radiographic anatomy,
-additional projections and spectacles: spot, zoom, -galactography with contrast and stereotyping,
-tomosynthesis, technical characteristics and field of use,
-quality controls in the analgesic and digital system.

Diagnostic pathway in the presence of non-palpable lesion (distortion and / or microcalcifications) and palpable lesion. Cytology, roll and lymph node sentinel.

Vision of: Analog films with specific peculiarities, mammographic images ideal for different projections and presence of artifacts.

Visualization of mammographic images made with the digital system in the various acquisitions, from standard projections to tomosynthesis. Considerations on the benefits of digital and how its features compensate for the high resolution of the analog system.

Odontostomatological Techniques:

-FDI Dental Numbering System,
-deciduous and permanent teeth erupting times,
-endoral radiological study: bite-wing, periapicali (parallel radius technique and bisectric technique), occlusal, RX tube and radiographic technique / anatomy
-panoramic radilogic study: Orthopantomography and Teleradiography, characteristics of equipment and technique / radiographic anatomy.
-types of implantology, traditional CT and TC techniques, multiplanar reconstructions.

Fundamental principles of radiation protection applied to reference methods and general concepts of clinical risk management applied to a proper technical / diagnostic path of the patient.
