At-home oral hygiene techniques 

Course contents

 

Introduction of the oral hygiene research: the scientific literature, the organization of a scientific study, the scientific databases, the evaluation of the research quality (h-index, citation index, impact factor)

Anatomical structure of teeth, enamel and dentine microstructure

Oral biofilm

Development and progression of plaque and dental calculus

Common oral pathologies: dental caries, dentinal hypersensitivity, dental erosion, periodontitis

Remineralizing treatments, new active molecules, fluoride-prophylaxis

At-home control of the formation of plaque and calculus: devices for the at-home hygiene, active toothpastes, mouth rinses and disinfection of the mouth

Approach to the oral hygiene for orthodontic patients, patients with dental implants and with dental prosthesis

Communication with the patient: language and motivation

Frontal lectures, experimental teaching methodology with role playing, Seminars and workshops, basic clinical practice

Assessment methods

 

Written examination with both multiple choice questions and open questions;

oral examination with correction of the written exam.

 

The 80 percent of the presence is absolutely required to stand the final learning test.
