Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will acquire knowledge of the romance languages and literatures of the Middle Ages and their formation, with particular regard to Spanish, Portuguese and Galician. The student will acquire the skills for adopting the instruments of textual criticism, in order to be aware of the transformations of texts and languages through the centuries.

  2. From Latin to the roman languages? Traditional theory vs prehistoricist theory
  3. Iberian Romances languages: an introduction to the history of the languages, with examples of historical grammar 

II.TEXTUAL CRITICISM

  1. The manuscript
  2. Orality and writing in Middle Ages
  3. Principles of ecdotics

III.HISTORY OF LITERATURE

  1. Geography and history of Romance origins
  2. Lyrics, epcis, novel
  3. The main texts of Iberian Romance literature

IV.TRANSLATION AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF TEXTS

  1. Cantar de Mio Cid
  2. Razón de amor
  3. Cantigas galego-portuguesas
