Learning outcomes
Workshops are designed to provide students with transversal and multidisciplinary skills that can prove useful in their future careers. At the end of the course, students have basic knowledge about Data Mining and have experienced a programming language to write simple data analysis programs.
Course contents
The goal of this course is to provide the basic knowledge concerning the main concepts and principles of cybersecurity (e.g. risk, risk assessment and evaluation, attacks and their typical structure, resources, functional systems requirements, human component). In this way, the course will provide the basic tools to understand the effects of computer network attacks run by nation state (or state-sponsored groups) that aim to gain unauthorized access to computer networks (i.e. Advanced Persistent Threats). During this process, either methodological, technological and behavioral (i.e. operation security) aspects will be considered mainly using a case-study approach.

The detailed knowledge of the previously listed teaching material ("slides" and "additional resources") is mandatory for a positive outcome of the examination.
Teaching methods
The lesson (20 hours) are used for both teaching (with slides projected during the lessons) and to promote the class discussion on some selected topics. The class discussion is of main importance to foster a "critical thinking" approach among the students.
In specific lessons (scheduled in advance and reported in the course website) a part of the lesson is reserved for the discussion of the scientific papers and technical articles that have been assigned during a previous lesson.
Assessment methods
The final examination has the goal to check if the student has an adequate knowledge of the main course topics.
The final exam consists of a 60-minutes written test (i.e., 4 open-ended questions); no books, notes or electronic devices can be accessed during the test. The final exam is made of questions that cover all the teaching material. The possible outcomes of the final examination are "pass" or "fail" (i.e., no grades).
To attend the exam, each student must sign up via AlmaEsami within a deadline. Those who cannot sign up must immediately communicate the problem to the teaching secretariat (and the teacher). Deciding whether to allow them to attend the exam or not is up to the teacher.
