The next call for applications for the Overseas study-abroad programme will be published within the first half of October 2026 . Through the Overseas programme it is possible to study one or two semesters in the 2027/2028 academic year as an exchange student at one of our institution’s partner universities located in countries outside of the European Union.
You can apply for the programme from mid-October until mid-November2026 through the Alma-RM online platform, accessible from Studenti Online.
Overseas grant
Students who will pass the selection will benefit from a financial contribution, provided by the University of Bologna, which will be defined on the basis of the economic conditions resulting from the ISEE 2026 certification. Therefore, a certificate attesting the ISEE value for 2026 (“Attestazione ISEE per prestazioni per il diritto allo studio universitario”) is required:
- If you have already submitted the ISEE certification for the calculation of the tuition fees (A.Y.2026/27) you are not required to submit it again, since it is valid for this call for applications as well.
- If you have not submitted the ISEE (A.Y.2026/27 ) certification yet you must access with SPID, CIE, CNS, eIDAScredentials the ER-GO online application form, and fill in the “Personal Data” and “Economic Data” sections. In the "Economic Data" section, you must enter the Self Certification (DSU) registration number from INPS, required to obtain the ISEE.
The deadline for the submission of the ISEE calculation is 30 October 2026 at 6:00 p.m. After this date, students may apply until 16 November 2026 at 6:00 p.m., but a fee of € 100 will be requested.
If you do not submit the ISEE calculation you can apply but you will be placed in the highest tier, thus receiving the lowest amount.
International students who cannot apply for the ISEE calculation must submit the documentation necessary to verify their economic condition as reported on the following webpage Submitting the ISEE or documents for foreign income for University fee exemptions.
Further information and deadline to submit the ISEE certification are available on the University’s web portal at the following page Submitting the ISEE or documents for foreign income for University fee exemptions.
Language requirements
In order to apply for the Overseas programme you must hold one of the language proficiency certificates required by the partner Institutions. Be aware that the test results and/or the language certificates must be submitted at the time of application.
For French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese languages, you can take a specific language test (‘accertamento linguistico’) for the Overseas programme at the CLA language Centre.
The Overseas language tests (‘accertamenti linguistici’) for French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese can be sat at the CLA Language Center in Bologna or at one of the Romagna campuses in the week from 3 to 10 November. You must register for the test from 19 till 29 October. See also the CLA web page.
You can take the test in a maximum of two languages: once in each language selected.
If you have already taken a language proficiency test at CLA during the last two academic years (A.Y. 2024/25 and 2025/26 ) in order to apply for an international mobility programme (Overseas, Erasmus+ for Study or Placement) you are not required to take the test again.
If you already have one of the international language proficiency certificates for French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese accepted by the Overseas program, you are not required to take the test. Accepted language certificates are listed in the certifications chart which will be published on the language requirements page of the Overseas 2027/28 call for applications on the UNIBO website.
Students who have obtained a high school diploma or degree in the language of instruction of the Universities they want to apply for (Chinese, Japanese, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish), may attest their language skills by producing their baccalaureate or their first or second cycle degree: in order to be eligible, the certificate must clearly indicate the language in which the qualification was obtained. Only the selected candidates will be required to submit additional language certificates at the nomination and application stages, if requested by the host university. The language certificates accepted by each university at the nomination and application stages are specified in the information sheets attached to the call. This option does not apply to candidates for destinations where the language of instruction is English. For English language the only accepted tests are TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic and Cambridge (you must check the scores and levels of certifications as required by the partner institutions in the info sheets attached to the Overseas call for application). If you want to apply for universities requiring an English proficiency certification and you don’t have a valid TOEFL iBT, IELTS (Academic) and Cambridge you are strongly recommended to take the test as soon as possible at one of the test-centers in Italy, to make sure that you will have the results by the application deadline.
