Enrolment
You can enrol in the filter semester up to a maximum of three times, even in non-consecutive academic years.
Firstly, you must register on the Universitaly website and then also enrol at the university that you chose on Universitaly as the location where you will attend the open semester.
- Enrol on the Universitaly website by 3 August 2026 at 6:00pm.
- Enrol at the University of Bologna by 6 August 2026 at 11:59pm, if you selected this university as the location where you will attend the open semester.
Enrolment is done on Studenti Online (by clicking on "Enrolment", then on “Open semester”) and is completed exclusively upon payment of the lump-sum fee of €250.00 (also for those entitled to any exemptions: in this case, the fee will be refunded later), to be paid through the PagoPA platform.
In the event of non-payment or late payment, you will not be considered enrolled in the open semester; simply submitting your enrolment application online via Universitaly is not sufficient.
Related courses at the University of Bologna
During enrolment on Universitaly, you will be asked to indicate at least five locations where you can continue your studies, in the second semester, in a related course in case, after the exams, you are not placed high enough in the national merit ranking or you withdraw from enrolment in the core course unit.
You do not necessarily have to choose the related course you are already enrolled in. If you are not admitted to the single cycle degree programme, you will actually be able to continue your studies at another location or in another related course that you have stated.
Related courses are those belonging to the degree classes in Biotechnology (L-2), Biological Sciences (L-13), Single cycle/combined bachelor's and master's degree in Pharmacy and Industrial Pharmacy (LM-13), Animal Science and Technologies of Animal Production (L-38) and some Healthcare Professions courses, defined annually by ministerial measure.

Additional steps for international students
- If you are a non-EU citizen residing abroad:
- If you are a non-EU citizen residing in Italy, by the start of lectures for the open semester you must demonstrate that you meet the requirements for EU-equivalent status, as outlined in point 1 on the Who are international students page. This is necessary to take part in the selection process for the second semester as an EU student.
How to submit documents if you hold a foreign qualification
If you hold a qualification obtained abroad, you must submit:
- the documents relating to your study qualification;
- the documents that grant you EU equivalent status (only if you are a non-EU citizen and declared on c that you hold an EU equivalent status).
From 22 July to 24 August 2026 log in to Studenti Online, go to the “Calls” section, search for the call “Open Semester 26-27 for Medicina e Chirurgia, Odontoiatria e Protesi Dentaria, Medicina Veterinaria - Foreign qualifications, residence permits and other documents for EU equivalent status” and upload the required documents.

The publication of these lists constitutes official notification for all legal purposes.
Conditionally admitted students may submit the missing documentation by 7 September 2026, following the instructions indicated in the attachment.
Failure to submit the required documentation by the deadline will result in the cancellation of enrolment in the Open Semester.
How to submit documents if you hold a qualification obtained in Italy
If you hold a qualification obtained in Italy (only if you are a non-EU citizen and declared on Studenti Online that you hold an EU equivalent status)

All communications addressed to students are published either on this webpage or on Studenti Online and shall be considered officially notified to the interested parties from the moment of publication.
Validation of course units already attended
If you are enrolled in the degree programmes in Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Orthodontics, Veterinary Medicine or in a related course and you have already attended one or more course units that can be traced back to those of the open semester, or you have already attended the open semester course units, you can request validation of attendance by completing the form by 6 August 2026 at 11:59pm.
