Learning outcomes
The goal of the course is to teach students to recognise the main phases of Fashion History, their characteristic elements and the reasons of changes. It will analyse general phenomena and tendencies but also specific cases, through the history of fashion objects in different periods and different frameworks.
It will teach to cross topics and sources to stress which changes happen during centuries and why.
It will focus not only on changes but also on persistences, and on revivals in particular.
The general objective is teaching to approach in a critical and historically correct way fashion history.
Course contents
The course will discuss the most important topics of the Fashion History from the Late antiquity to the fascism period. It will talk about general problems , like the luxusry and the criticism of it n but also of specific objects (for ezxamp,e shoes), about the relationa between historical events and fashion but also about works and worker during the long period (for example the tailors)
Readings/Bibliography
The student must know a manual, a specific lecture (Guardaroba medievale) and some essays (from La moda, Storia d'Italia,Annali)
Teaching methods
It will be used the method of critical analysis applied to the presented, discussed and crossed sources.
Assessment methods
The final exam is an oral test.
Teaching tools
During the course we will use documentary and iconographic sources, that will be read and discussed.
