Abstract
Dairy industry is oriented towards higher standards of quality, welfare and safety to reduce its impact on the envi-ronment and health. Preserving biodiversity is fundamental to cope with global warming and scarcity of resources. This project integrates individual milk phenotypes with Next Generation deep sequencing at level of bulk milk, to develop cost-effective pipelines that could provide, in one step, information about health status, safety and trace-ability both at farm and at individual level. These novel techniques will improve local and cosmopolitan breeds farming and will help to conserve biodiversity.
Results achieved
The project successfully established an integrated workflow combining individual milk phenotypes with bulk milk next-generation sequencing analyses. Preliminary results confirmed the feasibility of generating comprehensive information on animal health, milk quality, and traceability through a single analytical approach. The developed pipelines proved effective for integrating phenotypic and genomic data and represent a valuable resource for future applications. Overall, the findings are encouraging and provide a solid foundation for further research aimed at improving the sustainability of dairy farming and the conservation of genetic biodiversity in both local and cosmopolitan breeds.Project details
